How to care for and maintain your diamond jewellery

Make your diamonds everlasting

Diamonds last forever, but the sparkle in it may not. All you need to do is show some love and care. Diamonds are the hardest natural substance known to man. But they still need to be treasured and cared for regularly to keep them shining. Diamonds repel water, yet the oil deposits and grease from the mere touch of a human finger can cause dirt to collect and make this precious gemstone lose its sparkle.

Here are some curated tips for you on how to handle, store and protect your diamonds. These tips are applicable for both Lab Grown Diamonds and Mined Diamonds.

Handling your diamond ring

Being gentle is the best way to take care of this precious stone. While removing your diamond rings, ensure to pick it up by its band, not by the stone or setting. This will help to keep the diamond secure in its setting as well as preventing natural oils from your hands building up around the stone.

Storing your diamond jewellery

Due to their natural hardness, diamonds can have an impact on other gemstones when placed together. For the best care, it is always better to store it separately from other jewellery. Keeping your diamond jewellery in individual soft cloth pouches will also protect them. We recommend you store your jewellery box in a dry, cool and secure location.

Maintenance and cleaning at home

1. Handle your diamonds carefully; always touch your jewellery on the sides and not directly on the diamonds.

2. Avoid wearing your diamond jewellery when applying lotion, hair spray and other hard chemicals.

3. It’s vital to clean your diamonds regularly. The best way to do so, is to make a solution with warm water and add a mild dishwashing soap to it. Soak your jewellery for a few minutes, then using a new soft toothbrush gently brush the stone to remove the dirt and then rinse under warm running water. Remember not to use any harsh household cleaners and sanitizers, they can do more damage than good to your diamonds.

It is advisable to take your diamonds to your jeweller once in six months to shine up your diamonds with a professional cleaning.

The charm to a diamonds sparkle lies in its sides, which work like a sequence of many miniature mirrors reflecting light in and out of the stone. Diamond jewellery is indeed a thing of beauty and a joy forever and will remain so if you pay a little extra care to keep them so. With these tips, your diamonds can last a lifetime and look just as good as the day you first got them.
